Catering at events: the debate over animal welfare labelling

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture plans to make the state animal welfare logo mandatory in the catering sector and at events from 2027 onwards. The industry association DEHOGA has criticised the additional administrative burden this will entail.

Specifically, the aim is to label meat dishes according to the type of farming system used. The aim of the planned regulation is to create greater transparency for consumers.

This primarily affects catering companies and venues with their own food offerings. Menus would need to be adapted and flexibility with suppliers could be restricted.
