As of 1 July 2026, the previous duty-free allowance of 150 euros for consignments of goods from non-EU countries has been abolished. Consequently, all imports will in future be subject to the relevant customs duties and import VAT, regardless of the value of the goods.
As well as leading to higher procurement costs, the new regulations will also result in additional administrative burdens and may cause longer processing times for imports. This will particularly affect goods sourced directly from international suppliers.
The change is particularly relevant for event designers, decorators and agencies. Anyone ordering decorations, giveaways or bespoke event materials from third countries should factor in higher costs and longer delivery times when planning budgets and projects.
