With this relaunch, FREO is strengthening its role as a political advocate for independent ensembles and orchestras. The website functions as a ‘digital capital studio’: it highlights the cultural policy issues that concern independent ensembles and orchestras, the structural shortcomings that characterise their work, and the political decisions required to ensure fair operating conditions.
“Independent ensembles and orchestras need not only artistic visibility but also political visibility. With our new website, we are creating a space where politicians, administrators and the press can quickly understand what the structural issues are: planning certainty, long-term funding, social security and the preservation of a diverse musical infrastructure,” says Lena Krause, Managing Director of FREO.
A second focus of the relaunch is on the visibility of its members. FREO represents independent ensembles and orchestras across Germany, spanning different genres, generations, sizes and organisational forms. The new website highlights this diversity more clearly and showcases the artistic, social and structural work carried out by members in cities, regions and international contexts.
The site brings together key topics such as funding and financing, fair remuneration, social and labour market policy, diversity and participation, as well as work-life balance and the realities of everyday life. It also makes projects such as FREO VERNETZT, FREO ON TOUR, the FREO FORUM, the FREO Study and other initiatives more accessible.
With this relaunch, FREO is expanding its digital infrastructure and creating a central hub for anyone interested in the future of the independent music scene, its cultural and political relevance, and its structural needs.
