Last week, several regional building authorities published new inspection guidelines for so-called temporary structures. These include, amongst other things, stages, grandstands and event marquees. Particular emphasis is placed on stricter requirements for demonstrating structural stability in extreme weather conditions and under heavy wind loads.
In future, more detailed calculations must be submitted prior to technical acceptance. This will significantly increase the scope of planning and documentation requirements.
Event technology service providers, exhibition stand builders and festival organisers, in particular, will need to allow more time for technical inspections. Temporary structures erected at short notice without complete documentation could become more problematic in future and lead to delays in obtaining permits.
