Stricter checks by the Artists’ Social Security Fund (KSK) on the obligation to pay contributions in relation to events

The German Pension Insurance Scheme is stepping up its checks on artists’ social security contributions and is focusing more closely on companies and event organisers.

The German Pension Insurance Fund has significantly stepped up its audits of companies and event organisers with regard to the artists’ social security contribution. Event organisers must pay this contribution on fees paid to self-employed artists such as musicians, DJs, presenters or photographers.

This regulation is particularly relevant for event organisers who book DJs, live musicians, graphic designers or photographers for events. If the €1,000 threshold is exceeded, the relevant fees must be accurately recorded and documented for the annual KSK declaration.

For event planners and organisers, this means ensuring that fees are fully recorded when booking self-employed artists and creative professionals, so that the annual declaration can be completed correctly.
